Bengt H. Fellenius
Dr. Bengt H. Fellenius stands as one of the foremost contributors to the field of deep foundation engineering, with a career spanning over six decades and marked by a rigorous pursuit of understanding soil-structure interaction and foundation behavior. Born in 1936 in Gothenburg, Sweden, into a family steeped in geotechnical tradition, he is a third-generation geotechnical engineer. His grandfather, Wolmar Fellenius, pioneered the now-famous slip-circle method, and his father, Bror Fellenius, was Head of the Swedish Railways Geotechnical Department. Yet, despite this distinguished lineage, Bengt’s path into geotechnical engineering was driven not by family expectation, but by his personal; lifelong curiosity about the fundamental behavior of soils and structures under a variety of loading.
