Sound Package Materials for Vehicle Applications and More
Date: Thursday May 13, 2027
Time: 9:30 AM - 5:45 PM
Price: $900 per student, includes coffee and lunch
Instructor: Dr. Pranab Saha, INCE Bd. Cert, INCE Fellow/SAE Master Instructor

Overview:

The one-day short course provides an understanding of diferent sound package materials that are used in vehicles (including passenger vehicles, heavy trucks, and of highway vehicles) and how they reduce the noise in vehicles. The course defines three diferent types of acoustical materials: absorbers, barriers, and dampers, explains their diferences, and discusses the factors that are critical for improving the performance of these materials. The course starts with the fundamentals of NVH and sound quality related to sound package materials and discusses ways to evaluate the acoustical performance of these materials using diferent test methods, including material, component, and vehicle level measurements. This short course is an intermediate level course and designed to make participants familiar with sound package materials from the application viewpoint.

Topics Covered

  • Various descriptors that are used in NVH and sound quality while working with sound package materials for vehicles
  • Three fundamentally diferent sound package materials that are used in ICE and EVs
  • Descriptors of these diferent materials and how they are diferent from each other
  • How these materials work and how their performance can be improved
  • How these materials perform in an application
  • Various standards and test methods to determine the performance of these
  • Discussions on component level and vehicle level measurements

Who Should Attend
This academy will be especially valuable for engineers and other technical staf members who address NVH in passenger cars and autonomous vehicles, light trucks, heavy trucks, of-highway vehicles, farm machinery, small planes, personal watercraft, and rail transit vehicles.
