Inequity in Trauma Care: We are Not Immune

Jeremy Grushka

Dr Jeremy Grushka is a trauma surgeon working at Montreal General Hospital in Montreal, Canada. He is an attending trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist in the Division of Trauma and General Surgery at the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC). He is Assistant Professor of Surgery at McGill University. Jeremy completed his medical degree and general surgery residency training at McGill University and then obtained his subspecialty training in trauma surgery and critical care at the Ryder Trauma Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. During his fellowship training he also completed a Master of Public Health at the University of Miami. He also holds a Master of Science in Experimental Surgery from McGill University.

In addition to his passion for clinical practice, Jeremy has developed an avid interest in surgical education and is the current Trauma Fellowship Program Director at McGill University. He is also an active member of the MUHC center for global surgery and is currently working on various education and surgical capacity building projects with local partners in Haiti, Nepal and Ukraine. His clinical research interests focus on error producing conditions in trauma, non-opioid pain management in the injured patient, host inflammatory response to injury and surgical education.

Nancy Branco

Nancy Branco is the Interim Trauma Program Manager at the Montreal General Hospital from the McGill University Health Centre (MGH-MUHC) in Montreal, Canada. She is a licensed nurse in Quebec and received her Master of Nursing from Athabasca University in 2016. Since 1998, Nancy has performed several roles at the MGH in a clinical capacity (emergency and perianesthesia) and as a research nurse (in the fields of genetics, cardiology, and rheumatology/immunology). Along with her duties on the Trauma Service, she is also a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Instructor.

Nancy has lectured locally and nationally on different nursing topics and participated in several published articles. She is active in a variety of nursing organizations, including the Quebec Perianesthesia Nurses Association, the National Emergency Nurses Association, and the Emergency Nurses Association and now recently with the Trauma Association of Canada. Nancy has contributed to a multitude of committees at the MGH-MUHC towards improvement of patient care. She shares the role of Co-Chair for TAC 2022 in Montreal.

Kelly Vogt
TAC Scientific Program Chair
Dr Kelly Vogt is a Clinician Scientist and Assistant Professor at the University of Western Ontario, and is a general surgeon and Associate Medical Director of the Trauma Program at London Health Sciences Centre.

After graduating from the University of Waterloo with a BSc in Health Studies, Dr. Vogt received her medical degree and general surgery residency training at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, Western University. During her residency, Dr. Vogt also received a MSc in Health Research Methodology from McMaster University. Upon finishing her residency, Dr. Vogt joined the Division of Acute Care Surgery LA County, University of Southern California Medical Center in Los Angeles where she completed a fellowship program in trauma and surgical critical care. Dr. Vogt joined the faculty at London Health Sciences Center in 2014. She is currently working on her PhD in Health Research Methodology at McMaster University.

Dr. Vogt is the current chair of the Department of Surgery Research Committee at Western University. She serves on the Board of Directors of both the Canadian Association of General Surgeons and the Trauma Association of Canada. She is the Scientific Program Chair for TAC 2022 in Montreal.

Dr. Vogt’s program of research focuses on quality and outcomes in emergency general surgery and trauma with a Canadian health systems lens. Dr. Vogt is the current chair of the Canadian Collaborative on Urgent Care Surgery (CANUCS) and has over 90 peer reviewed publications.
